Connecting to your city failed

Hi, I recently bought DoF off of Desura and can not figure out how to play online. I am able to login to the server and create a kingdom but when I try to enter the game after I have created a new town, a window pops up and tells me "connecting to your city failed". I have forwarded the right ports, turned off firewall, reset modem. Cant figure it out, the server just wont let me on.
