Siege Defenses

Hello all! A little late, but we're here with 12 new screenshots nonetheless! We hope testers and non-testers alike are enjoying the lessened NDA restrictions for the beta with a ton of new information floating in, and we are really excited about all of the recent coverage Dawn of Fantasy has been getting - preview links will be posted shortly!

Today we thought we would share with you some of the new siege defense mechanisms. The mechanisms below do not include those that are 100% offensive, such as the Fire Cart and the Ruin Vine - these will be shown off at a later date. Many of these defenses were suggested for implementation by our earlier beta testers, and I must say, it's a real treat seeing them in-use to repel off an invading force!

Human Defenses:
  • Hoarding - A wooden structure that can be built over wall segments to provide cover for archers and other units, increasing their defense rating.
  • Oil Pot - A mechanism that can be built on bastions and gatehouses as an automated defense that pours boiling oil over enemies on the ground.
  • Spike Trap - An underground trap that can be built around the perimeter of your stronghold. When enough weight is applied to the trap, the spikes will spring up, either automatically or manually, causing massive damage. This defense was recommended by beta tester sneaky_squirrel!
  • Stone Tipper - A large mechanism that can be built on wall segments and bastions that hurls massive boulders on enemy battalions.
  • Wall-mounted Trebuchet - A fixed version of the Trebuchet that can be built on bastions and towers to attack enemy units with its long range.



Elven Defenses:
  • Garviola - An underground man-eating plant planted by Enchanters that grows over time. During a ambush it will emerge from underground, take a bite at the enemy, then submerge back into the ground slowly. If the Garviola has grown big enough it will attempt to eat the entire enemy; if successful it will submerge slower and not come back up for a minute or two. Newly-planted Garviola are vulnerable to trampling cavalry, and all Garviolas are vulnerable to fire. This defense was suggested by beta tester sneaky_squirrel!
  • Hoarding - A heavy vine structure that can be built over wall segments to provide cover for archers and other units, increasing their defense rating.
  • Sun Stone - A glowing gem upon a pole that provides a small healing aura for nearby allied troops. The Sun Stone is strongest during the day as it gets its power from the sun. If an attacker manages to hit the defense with a siege projectile, the Sun Stone will explode, damaging all nearby troops. Defenders can also self-destruct the Sun Stone if the enemy has taken a wall segment, causing it to explode and damage the invading units. This defense was suggested by beta tester Jean=A=Luc!
  • Wall-mounted Bolt Thrower - A fixed version of the Bolt Thrower that can be built on bastions and towers to attack enemy units with its long range.



Orcish Defenses:
  • Body Pile - A passive defense built on plots scattered around the perimeter. The pile of rotting corpses is greatly effective against elven and human attackers lowering their morale, effectively decreasing their defense rating, range, and view and draining their stamina. This trap was suggested by beta tester Litos456!
  • Hoarding - A wooden structure that can be built over wall segments to provide cover for archers and other units, increasing their defense rating.
  • Rock Net - A suspended net of large rocks that can be dropped on enemies underneath, instantly killing them - very effective against large siege weapons. Costs stone to reload. This defense was suggested by beta tester sneaky_squirrel!
  • Spike Trap - An underground trap that can be built around the perimeter of your stronghold. When enough weight is applied to the trap, the spikes will spring up, either automatically or manually, causing massive damage.
  • Wall-mounted Catapult - A fixed version of the Catapult that can be built on bastions and towers to attack enemy units with its long range.

Hehe I love the orc rock pile and the elven man eating plant I can't wait to go play these.

Lolwut? I can see morale and stamina correlating, and perhaps defence rating, but not range and view. What are they, averting their eyes?

The orcish defences seem rather simple compared to the other races. Or is that just me?

The orcs aren't known for their defenses or technology. They're a much more offense-oriented race.

I like it! I favoritet the humans and the elvers! but thats becouse i'm so offensive in my tactics... LOVE IT!
