it might be okay, read your motherboard manual it will have a section aboiut ram, 99% of the time ram should be in sets of 2 of the exact same ram, if its configured improperly you will notice times of lagspikes as your ram is being dumped or something wierd, weird things can happen.
What i've learned with ram is always same type, least amount of sticks with most amount of mhz vs size. I got kingston 2x4gb 1600 mhz sticks and my god they are fast. later on if i need it in a year or so i will add 2x8gb 2200mhz sticks and sell the old sticks. my motherboard can support 32 gbs at 2200mhz. insane.

my old ram? I took all my old parts and rebuilt a new pc with it, sold it to my brother.
AMD duel core 6000+ 3.0ghz, Bought new kick ass thermal paste and reapplied it, runs sooo cool, like 28-34ºc 3 gbs ram (2gbs kingston 667mhz and 1gb 300 something mhz from korea, really caused lots of lagspikes in all games(including dof) cus of that.) geforce 8600gt 256mb 2x120gb sata hhd

Have DDR2 1066 if I remember right
2 Dimms of 2gb each exactly the same Most Mainboerds I had so far refused to even start up when Ram was Mixed Can only sign Joes comments here Always try to have Identical Ram Dimms mounted on each Bank otherwise it will just slow down the System
