Default DoF Multicores and SLI

Will Dof support multi core cpu's

Age of Connan is only MMO now that truely supports multi cores now.

And what About SLI support, Its a myth SLI runs no matter what.. Will DoF support SLI? for instance you can run SLI with Everquest II, it runs with SLI but do to its programming EQ2 craps out frame rates while in SLI.

I turned off SLI in EQ2 and actually gained FPS.

Programming for multi-core systems isn't easy. There are a lot of hazards you need to work around, and presently there aren't good programming languages which will deal with them for you, so you can have a whole bunch of mayhem going on in the cache of a multi-core machine even if your program is technically correct and works perfectly on a single-core machine.

Given how long DoF has been in production, I'd say it's very unlikely that multi-core is going to be supported. On the other hand, as far as RTS is concerned, the bottom line for performance is almost always your RAM anyways. I don't know much about the technical side of SLI, but again given how long it's been in production I think it's more likely than not it won't support it.

This it the official message from our programmers:

Right now DoF supports dual core CPU`S. In fact to get a decent performance out of DoF you will need a dual core CPU - which majority of PC users already have.

We didn`t include support for Quad CPUs yet - and I`m not sure if we will, as Due seems to be good enougth to run all the aspects of the game.

From what Ive heard SLI isn't worth the trouble unless you have money to waste.

What exactly is SLI? I hear that word being used a lot, in the context of new graphics cards having it or lacking it...

it's pretty useless imo considering a cheap single card will play any game out on high settings

too many people playing on crappy machines known as consoles for the PC to actually support huge budget games that push hardware every year

Consoles may actually see a reduction in these spec-intensive games. They're incredibly expensive to develop, and as a result their profit margins are razor thin. If a small indie sells half a million copies, they're rolling in dough. If a big title high graphics game sells half a million, they're deep in the red. It's higher risk to develop these "flagship" titles with next-gen graphics, and often the potential profit isn't even that great. Unless you have an established franchise with a loyal fan base (Halo, Metal Gear, etc) it's nearly impossible to get the budget approved for something like that, especially in today's market.

The thing about the PC isn't that developers aren't making enough games to take advantage of high end hardware, but there aren't enough gamers with that high end hardware to merit the massive development costs of supporting it. If you want to successfully market a PC game, one of the best things you can do is offer low system spec requirements. It won't get you a lot of exclusives for your stunning visuals, but the potential number of buyers increases dramatically.

True, it's one of the reasons Blizz is so successful.

Yes thats the SLI im talkin about. Scalable Link Interface (SLI) is a brand name for a multi-GPU solution.

Like I will have (3) 9800 GTX OC on my motherboard in a Tri link setup.

All I was asking about SLI was DoF support of it. Dev's should know ? Some game do not support it well and you lose Frames Per Second on multi linked setups.
