Since our maps vary greatly in size I`ll have to describe it myself by giving a few examples from standart skirmish gameplay.
Map with two player towns on it would be around 6 by 6 max zoomed out screens. Map with four player towns - 9 by 9. With 6 player towns - 11 by 11. With 8 - 13 by 13. Quite epic, but not quite in a Medieval Total War scale. We do have huge cities, but realism of our world had to be limited by the travel distance between the cities, so we had to cram things in a bit. Our limit is 1.5 minute long walk between enemy towns, or 45 seconds run (but it`ll exhaust your soldiers) |

I think that answered my question well enough. I certainly do agree with your reasoning with regards to distance between towns. Besides, the vast majority of that empty space would never be used, anyways, in a real gameplay situation.

but what about online in MMO would it be like mega huge map to challenge your neibors on the xbox live cummunity...and i looked at the worldwide map would all the players be placed in a diferent part in that area?

It's already been addressed implicitly that there will not be a continuous world. Therefor, one map is more like an instance where a single battle might happen between two or more players. It is unlikely that there will be more than eight at a time, but I don't know how that would be handled if a battle got out of control and lots of players started to join in... actually, that would be very interesting, so I do hope they handle it well.
