I believe if you have a biger army you will most likely be matched with someone with a army in simular size and rank, your rank and your army will be counted together to get a match with someone with simular skill/rank or and or assets.

and example of this:
lets say you are a noob, really low rank, but have a massive army, there's a possiblity you could be matched with someone with the same thing, low rank big army, or, a medium rank and a medium sized army, or a much higher rank/skilled player, with a small army.
All caluated to try to keep the balance between players and their army size and skill/rank.

Not fully sure about this, Ryan or Kon will have to confim.

Which is why I suggested a column-oriented database instead of a RDMBS, which is just overkill. A database would probably make it easier on the server to compare armies, check player rankings etc.
