A couple of my friends on warcraft 3 left to play SC2, they were back 2 days later.

Don't get your hopes up wait until the expansion where they give you access to the custom scenario builder tool.

SC2 is pretty good. Also, the galaxy editor comes with the game already.

So their entire complaint comes down to them not liking the skirmish maps and needing the editor to make new ones? Or was it the shocking realization that a SC2 version of DoTA wasn't released with the game?

Starcraft 2 is loads of fun, and I don't have any clue how they thought that there was no custom scenario editor. I was able to even play around on the editor in the beta, so I don't think that they would take it out for the actual game.

Yes the scenario editor is called "Galaxy Editor".
