Ok the part about not going up the trees is sad. Could you turn a stairway on it's end in the editor and have units appear they were going up a ladder? Even if the visually they were walking it would still be really cool.

I'd have to try that out, but you could use bridge markers to let units 'climb up' ladder props. This is how the orcs access their walls. If you remember our editor showcase, invisible bridges can be used for pretty much anything - including walking on water and in the air. And soon enough, we'll have ladder-carrying units involved in siege (had to take them out for a while to fix some pathfinding and connection issues).

Cool. Thanks for the info. So orcs climb ladders to mount their own walls as opposed to having the ramps we've seen in screenshots for men?

BTW, will the ladders be carried horizontally? I hated in BfME, they were kept upright ALL the time

LOL. I didn't play bfme but that's hilarious. Ever tried running at a wall with a 20 ft ladder upright? Ladders are enormously heavy anyway. Some programmers seem to have forgotten real life at times. But not our devs!

IIRC, men carry them horizontally, orcs vertically, and elves grow them.

Well orcs were made for arrow fodder anyway. All brawn and no brains. I can't wait to see the elves grow them

I think it's the elven rangers that can grow them as a special ability. Perhaps using invisibility and grow ladders? Could be epicly aggravating.

I seem to remember from one of the showcases that it was only a certain elven magician unit that could grow vine ladders.
