I haven't seen it yet but I tend to agree with those who call the movie a sci-fi Pocahontas story of little substance.
But it always amuses me when the Vatican nerd rages over this sort of thing. "Religions" like Wicca and various neo-paganistic practices have gained a lot of popularity during the past years and the Vatican seems to perceive them as a genuine threat. Should be interesting.

The pope/papacy and the Vatican are generally held to be the leaders of roman catholics, so what they say is taken generally as dogma by most people most of the time. People might have extrapolated what they said to make it sound like denouncement of the movie, I don't know.

, but the term sci-fi Pocahontas suits Avatar best. For me ... I am tired of all the alien movies where the aliens come to conquer Earth and they still cant because we have some bad ass actors who save us, and really wanted to see a movie, a drama, where humanity is overpowered and others struggle for their pity life's, but in the end humanity win and poor little aliens are trying to survive like some partizan's. Come on, don't tell me Humanity traveled that long distance and they don't have the necessary weapons to kill those "creatures". |

Although I haven't seen it, from what I heard I also conclude that it's nice, thought it's just pocahontas with some cool sci-fi things added.

Reguarding Avatar: a decent action film that for some strange reason appeals to the masses, and has made it possible for James Cameron to buy Kenya and rename it Cameronland. The longer it has been out the more shocked I am that people have completely lost their minds over this and other... Decent titles, while good movies are left to die. That gripe aside: The humans only wanted mining rights, you selfish blue smurfs! But further, the company is run by the biggest group of morons the universe has seen. I would hope in the far future they would have figured good methods of shaft mining, so all that would need be done would be to dig vertically a couple hundred feet and then run horizontal shafts under the Na'vi so no one could freaken' complain. I mean the messy murder buisness would have been a public relations nightmare, who manages this company?? Quantum?! SPECTRE?! SAURON?!
Regarding the Papal Hat: Wait a moment.. I was getting geared up to go on about Pope Benny and the like... but: The Vatican didn't issue a statement, Vatican News did... The Vatican is a nation guys, they have independent radio just like you do. Just because some guy there doesn't like it, doesn't mean it is the springboard of a massive Catholic lead anti-avatar purge. Looks like Yahoo is preserving it's status as one of the crappiest news sources ever by using misleading article titles. |
