protectorate

A protectorate, in international law, is an autonomous territory that is protected diplomatically or militarily against third parties by a stronger state or entity. In exchange for this, the protectorate usually accepts specified obligations ( aka tribute)

so my idea was make this a diplomatic option in exchange for paying regular tribute a larger kingdom (kingdom "A")can gift units to a smaller kingdom (kingdom "B" ) that can be used only within kingdom B's territory as a defensive force, (not used to attack other kingdoms) and could never be used even defensively against kingdom A. if for some reason the protectorate treaty is broken the forces of kingdom A that were under kingdom B's control are returned to the stronghold of kingdom A. also kingdom B would be responsible for unit up keep (if there is any)

just my idea , i tried searching for protectorate in the forums but couldn't find it so if there is info on that just chalk it up to me being a noob

Ok just my opinion...=)

If you want protectorate it is same as joining in a aliance/clan/guild... or...
if are in different aliances or anything else.... you can always have a deal with others.... each time he defends your base you can give him tribute.
This deal between players, not a obligatory protectorate, is better cuz he wont be always online... it is possible he wont be online always to send soldiers to you before you will be attacked than you are giving him a tribute for no reason + he may fail if one from his alliance attack you.
So i guess no need for protectorate... you can have a deal by yourelf and x person(s).
(i dont remember right but at travian there are deals that players do between each other and nt with protectorate and it is doing fine.... there unbalance .. here with the numbers of attackers/defenders would do good i guess)

you misunderstood i said gift units, the hole idea was so even if the nation you are paying tribute to is off line u still have access to troops that he has gifted to you... troops that can only be used with in your borders and will stay yours until the agreement has ended

as for joining guild/ alliances you still have to count on them coming to help you if they can, if they arn't being attacked , and if they feel like it.

i guess what i am purposing is a way to rent troops that can only be used as a defensive force, call it what ever you will , i guess it would also be as if you could rent mercs from other nations to Defend and only defend your property , if they were allowed to attack i might get abused

Sounds pretty cool but it doesn't sound at all necessary and I think something like this can already be done in the game.

Yea i guess the name misslead me little =)..... now that i know what you ment correctly than agree with this quote ...... why would you want to pay to a player when you can get merc anytime anyday ?=) And they cant also break the agreement i guess =).

Sounds good idea. If you can have allies assign troops which they are prepared to help you with.

Would give the the flexibility even when they are offline of letting them escort your caravan etc. But i guess you would have to treat his men carefully or he may withdraw that right if everytime he logs on he finds his men leant to you dead lol
