Default Question about PvP

Been wondering how PvP works in the MMORTS feature in this game, and how big of a role it plays. I read up 2 of the new interviews and found a lot regarding PvE battles and quests, but as of right now I know very little about the games PvP. I think it would be pretty incredible if this game had multiple alliances waging war for domination of the world map.

"The only thing that isn't persistent is that your stronghold cannot be attacked while you are offline"
I read this quote and was further intrigued on the matter. So I have a lot of questions regaring PvP and zone control in the MMORTS feature.

Can you capture or lose territories? If so to what extent?
Are certain zones un-claimable?
How does a PvP battle or siege over world territory happen?
How is a regular skirmish/land battle initiated?
Can anyone start battle to try to claim territory?

Thanks in advanced
