Maybe instead, as a player gets more powerful, with respect to his guild, he begins to lose the advantages of the guild.

Powerful players don't need guilds.

What do you think?

That's a great idea. It would still allow them to receive some benefits but steps it down a notch to keep them from becoming too powerful.

Speaking of guilds, DoFS is working on the groups system particularly now. It looks real good

Edit: I also believe you can olnly attack people within five levels (not sure though) so this would keep guilds from mauling lower levels.
I believe that there are deterrents from attacking people that are not as advanced as you. And I agree, people shouldn't have to think about level when joining a guild.

Kill the levels, burn the xp, purge the advantages

Also, Dof source is going to have a guild system where you can basically register your guild so that it will appear there if someone wants to go look for a guild to join. Basically we're hoping all guild leaders will register their clans so people can then find them in the database.
Would this work similar to the tribal wars system at twstats? as that is a really good system and well worth a look if you are intrested in a model to base it off etc?

Sorry for the second post pressed submit to soon.

But with regard to powerful players not having guilds i fear that would be hugely unbalanced. As some missions already stated would be to band together with friends and take on a more powerful player. if he has no support form guild then he wont have a fair chance.

Also it penalises players for doing well as they will loose the community aspect of the game.

Another point is a powerful player can become a weak player if he is constantly warring so even though he is large it dosent reprosent his military power. If this does happen then it will be easy prey for all.

im guessing its balanced bercouse players ca only see other players based around there level so that will resolve many issues and xp gained will be low for high level players attacking low etc.

So all in all i say the guild system should stay untouched. its pretty common in every empire to have one or two powerful houses and then lesser houses surrounding them. So why try to fight the enivitable balance of power

We already have our plans. The system will have it's own internal calendar with scheduled events. These events will be displayed as ongoing on the front page as they are currently happening (i.e. a battle). After the event the results of it will be updated and displayed, and recorded into the history of the guilds that participated in it.
The front page of the guilds system will show some other things, such as when a new guild has formed, all in a feed type of update thing. Leaders will be able to post their own short updates this way on their guild's page, etc.
There's quite a few very nice features, but we're making it so that people can easily keep up with what's going on in the DoF world since this is hopefully a community based game.
