Question about multiplayer

So a friend of mine and me would like to start playing this awesome looking game
so my question is if we both take the same race
is there a chance we are "neighbors" ? can we trade and make an alliance
do we see our cities on the map ?
sorry i wasn't in the beta and the few gameplay videos on youtube don't provide enough information about how the multiplayer part really works out
can players do quests together ? etc

Welcome, the alliance part is yet to be implemented yet, you won't see your cities on the map because it was a dev descision( and you coudn't see the map for all the cities by now). Right now "visiting/trading" with specific people isn't in but is planned and should come along (hopefully later this month)

so will it be possible if one player of an alliance in the same region is attacked that another player in the alliance can send troops to help ?
when the alliance system is implented of course

Yup also you'll be able to hire from a pool of "available mercs" to help you in battle.
