I'm not from Australia, but from Eastern Europe and the game is not laggy for me, if it helps.
And hey, you should be with eyes on promo maybe you get a free key and then you'll know if it is laggy or not and can recommend to your friend fro Australia.

edit: see for this reason I would like to see a 7 day trial of the game so anyone on the globe can try if the game suits it's needs and then buy it...
