Maiherpi was an ancient Egyptian nobleman whose tomb was found in the Valley of the Kings near modern Luxor. Although his official title was "Royal Fan-Bearer", he is thought to have additionally served as an adviser or bodyguard for the New Kingdom Pharaoh Thutmose IV. Some have speculated that he was of Nubian heritage due to a depiction of him as jet-black in his copy of the Book of the Dead, but it must be remembered that sometimes Egyptian characters were painted jet-black to symbolize resurrected souls.
The Afro that Maiherpi wears here is based on an actual wig stitched onto his mummy.
