A feature like this is somewhat necessary to create custom singleplayer campaigns. However, I actually see no reason not to extend these features into multiplayer. People are capable of doing stupid stuff with the map editor to begin with, but something like this could open the door to cooperative campaigns so long as people play nice and don't corrupt save files.

I'm reminded of Warcraft III where, in order to establish persistent content, people would actually have an input code that players would put in. Each code was unique to each player's login name, but it was only a matter of time before every one was cracked. People are going to try to find a way to implement a feature like this themselves anyways.
