Yap we`ve seen that and going for it! We tried 3 times already, once with a publisher and twice as Indie, they didn`t even fully process our application.

Too bad it`s only launching end of August...

for those who don't really know what it is or don't have the time to klick the link:

"What is Steam Greenlight?
Steam Greenlight is a new system that enlists the community's help in picking some of the next games to be released on Steam. Developers post information, screenshots, and videos for their game and seek a critical mass of community support in order to get selected for distribution. Steam Greenlight also helps developers get feedback from potential customers and start creating an active community around their game as early in the development process as they like."

I am surprised they haven't allowed you guys to put Dawn of Fantasy on Steam yet. There are so many crap-tastic games on there now that DoF is much better than.

Sunleader 07-15-2012 11:47 PM

Well
In the End Steam is about Money
Theyre not doing this for Fun

Good Game or Bad Game doesnt matter.
Only thing that matters is the Cash that Steam can rake in by allowing a Game for their Platform.

Games with alot of Media Attention will go in without Problems because Steam knows they will sell.
Same goes for Games which are backed by an Renown Company

But if you got neither of both you need to be attractive in another way

Small Scale Games usually do this by offering their Games very cheaply on Steam so Steam can distribute it as extra parts of packages or as bargain stuff

Bigger Games will close Contracts to be Steam Only in order to assure Steam that they will profit

Now Dawn of Fantasy wont offer Steam the sole Publishing Rights on the Game :)
Also Dawn of Fantasy comes from an young Company which doesnt have a Big name yet
And Dawn of Fantasy is also not an Smallscale Game.

So in the Eyes of Steam

Dawn of Fantasy aint Lucrative enough to be acceptet.
After all even if the Community would grow Steam would not get the Full Profit from it.
They would only have the Game itself which is a one time Download.
The Main Long Time Profit lying in the Item Store would not be on them

Well of course just a guess on my side ^^
I can only try to imagine how they tick

but I think it should be something close to this :)

Sunleader - you are completely right about this! In addition though - there is a huge application backlog as they do get tons of small games submissions, and unfortunately we had to go that way with DoF. Hopefully things will work out with Greenlight.

i hope so too you guys have done a good job with this game and i think the thing it lacks most is exposure. I tell me friends about it ad most havent heard of it. Steam would give you guys a lot of new players for sure.

This is a problem. We are stuck in a bad situation right now:) The game is more or less polished and ready for mass marketing, but we have already spend out marketing budget/time on polishing the game. And marketing the game costs quite a bit.

So for now - our options are - waiting for greenlight to go live; hoping our new distributor/publisher will start some marketing soon; invest our time in doing whatever marketing we do ourselves instead of working on updates...

But hey - thanks for the kind words, and you can always help us by letting your friends know about the game.

buddhist23 07-23-2012 11:31 AM

is there really nothing you can do about updates? maybe just one tiny patch saying army lag has been fixed ;\.
