I was defending my home against a smaller force, and while I dominated their units their taproots were not only indestructable, they caused me to lose once they traveled beneath my walls, into my home, and could not be killed. This is a complete break of the game's mechanics and needs to be fixed. Otherwise I'll just attack everyone's strongholds with 20 taproots and occupy their castles, and grind permanently that way. And then everyone else will, and the game will be ****.

Taproots are only indestructible while under ground, during that time they also don`t damage your units. All you need to defeat taproots is a bit of archers with fire arrows or fiery arrows, and some siege equipment. While your melee units will also damage them, they will take more damage than they deliver.

I have never seen a taproot that wasn't instantly owned by a dragon/mage/force of archers and an army of 20 or them seems like it would be ineffective due to the slow move speed.
