I don't understand, he is suppose to be a healer class yet he has the exact same things as my orc leader. Even the heals are the same in size.

I was curious about this unit as well. As a side question, has anyone compiled a list of all the unit and hero types so we are able to compare them? I mean I am sure there is some data on the wiki's, but would be nice to see like a huge chart comparing all the races.
But as far as your first statement, yeah everyone gets their HERO unit that can do the mass heal, but having another unit that can do this is pretty handy. As far as I have seen, you Hero is the only unit that can do this. Granted some can heal themselves, but healing others can be pretty handy. I am debating about picking one of these guys up tonight after work and taking him for a test run.

Yeah, plus you got the advantage that your hero can stay at the quest giver, even if you want to have a nice heal in your army. Increases the crown farming by a good amount.

Well my hero is a big intricate part of my quest army hes rank 53, plus dont you need your hero to start the quest?

Well, yeah some quests require it, but really I can't think of a single fight you wouldn't want your main hero to go along. Being you can level the hero up really high AND he can't perma die makes him the best unit ever. Plus I THINK he only counts as ONE unit instead of 4 like a normal hero unit would need.
But my point above was that, having a second unit that can group heal will be handy. Plus the hero unit only does like 500 HP or something like that, so maybe if the shaman does more we will see more of an edge there.
As far as the dragon slayer army, that sounds pretty handy for pvp for sure. Although really only 1 or 2 is all you need. I mean, a dragon = 10 units and I am pretty sure someone isn't going to just pick 6 dragons, ALTHOUGH it wouldn't be impossible.

Protector also have area heal, and is one of most resilent hero in game

I have indeed made a guide to the various heroes and dragons, and I intend to keep it as up to date as I can manage.
As for the Tribal Shaman, he is indeed a big let-down in my opinion, and I for one do not understand why he was released in his current iteration. In the patch thread over on the steam forums, there was mention of him being given new Abilities/Spells once the magical "Magic Patch" comes around with proper 'Mage'-like units. So lets hope for the best, I suppose!

That is a pretty good guide, it pretty much told me what I suspected.
That is very unfortunate about the shamans. Since most elite units can heal themselves anyways, this makes them slightly less useful. Particularly since your default hero gets the same abilities.
One unit I have started to REALLLLY love is the Dwarf Champions, they are beast.'
I have one that hits for like 1500 and the other is like 2100 :) Not many things can stand up to that, and they have great regen and maxed armor.
