Question for the devs.... How far can you zoom in onscreen?

Because it would be nice to zoom in on your units and see them well... Many RTS games do not allow this and it really bugs me... Especially in games such as Halo Wars where it appears that you SHOULD be able to, but you cant!

It appears that the zoom may be quite good due to some of the screenshots we have seen... But as has been said before... They have been set up and so that may not be like gameplay would allow...

What better to do than zoom in to your units and observe them while waiting on the enemies to charge at you?

Heck no hahahah, if zoomed all the way in was 1 and zoomed all the way out was 10, those pictures (http://reverieworld.com/forums/showpost.php?p=13618&postcount=66) would be 2 and 3.
The pictures if you can't see them in the link are in the media releases on page 7 or 8 of the random screenshot thread.

In that case we would possibly see shields gathering more arrows as the battle wears on? ;) :p

It would be cool to see projectiles sticking out of units and their shields/armour. Heroes and ogres etc. could have dozens of arrows sticking out of them, it would be cool.

Heh, they had that on TES4:Oblivion. Except the arrows stuck out in the most random places.

This is something we haven't really decided on yet as it is very easy to change. But I do want to see total control of pitch (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yaw,_pitch_and_roll) within game just like in Company of Heroes and roller coaster tycoon 3.
Cameras in general work better in performance in a higher pitch environment.
The problem with low zoomed in cameras is that the camera can get positioned in odd places such as inside a Ogres head (empty space), still bugs will inevitably be crushed. :)

Oh I absolutely adored the Company of Heroes camera. That was such a nice touch: being able to look right next to a sniper perched in a building, or among paratroopers in a field, or surveying the carnage on the battlefield... what fun that game is. Shame my laptop can barely handle it.

Edit:Gah, like 10,000 patches, i'm ready to just go campaign mode anyways and patch more later lol.
Edit:Double gah, wouldn't let me play single player 1 of the patches musta made it so i gotta login...on patch 19/22 though so closeeee....

Close in zoom would be a nice feature to have in game I can see the problem of the camers going into empty space, which isnt so good... Im sure something will be worked out!!

You can zoom to an extent, but it isn't as free as the CoH camera. That thing is like, big brother, haha.

Yeah I like the idea of a zoomable camera. However it shouldn't be so distracting as to take away your focus from important aspects of the game.

problem is when u zoom in too much and you find ou they are all idental
not to bad when they are in full armour but other wise need to be a bit of random generation...

And the camera can track a group unit which advances in tracking mode or not?

Hey LiTos , you have not answered my question in my introduction post.

Oh, sorry. Hard to keep track of things here sometimes.
And no I don't think the camera has a tracking ability yet. Something that should probably be implemented though, somehow I doubt it'll be too hard (but hey programming is one hell of a world so I could be wrong).

I hope you could implement it, it's really nice to follow his armed without using the mouse and keyboard. It adds a good point.

And the other players, what do you think of this?

I agree that I definitely like to be able to zoom in close. As a game designer I love to be able to see the model/texture work close-up.

Can't the issue with the camera getting stuck in things be averted by just fading out objects that the camera is within a certain radius to? Like, suppose if it's in an ogre's head (which I would never want to be in) the ogre's head would just be faded to a 0 alpha, or moved a little in front of it etc.
