As requested by Litos, this thread is for discussing Dragon Mercs shown in the recent media update. Enjoy.

I think it's awesome! If dragons are to be in the game they need to be something special instead of gimped down to the level of other lowly races (or really lowly races like humans). Anyways it's been a while since i tromped these grounds so im looking at all the new suff...so much stuff :P

Personally, I think it was a good way to implement them without scrapping the whole idea for a future release as well as a good decision strategically. I just hope the cost of them is worked out correctly and that they're as effective as they sound.

Dragons are ancient, intelligent creatures, and they like eating people, win win for everyone. I just hope when they add dragons as a playable race its draconians not actual dragons which would ruin the total utter awesomeness and power that dragons posses.

Dragon merc has been know about for a long time now. I mean sure it wasn't confirmed but the devs talked about it a lot. Also if you can use dragons as mercs how will things change when a dragon faction is implemented?

Almost going on a side note, was such a shame when they canned the Dragons, really looked forward to them.

Each and every fantasy RTS has some sort of Elf playable, but noone has had Dragons as race/Nation.. :}

No moar elfs! :P Gief dragons!

Ontopic, but yepp, hope the Merc is balanced ok and that we get to see them too.. :D

Draconians are in several games. It'd be nice if the dragons mercs are more of a central market thing where they randomly show up from time to time and players have to actually bid on them, that way their cost:strength ratio will always be balanced based on the times. I think it's great that they're not downplaying dragons as a "normal race" personally.

I agree but it still would b cool use dragons as a race and kno wat their ships looks like lol

Would dragons even need ships when they can fly? Besides dragons+wood just doesn't seem like a smart combination :P. Maybe platforms to perch themselves on in the sea to protect from land attacks before advancing heheh.

Barely any of the original Dragon faction could fly, or breathe fire.

I figured as much, was just playing around since they say dragons not draconians. Seriously though, i'd imagine then more as cave dweller types, with wooden ships same as everyone else. But perhaps a bit more simplistic.

Well i must disagree about dragons as merceneries. Ok i would agree for some dragon slaves, or somewhere the lowest rank of dragons (the ones who dont have wings or shoot fire) as merceneries cuz as i see they are noble , ancient, magnificant race and wont be in their honor to serve , even as mercenery, to another lower being.....

But it is the point of view of the game that matters... And possibly the dragon see's serving ____ race as for the greater good and whatever... Dragon slaves... I'm not too sure about, I think as you said they would not serve another against their will and so would rather die...

I hope that the dragon mercs will be balanced.
And I don't see why dragons can't be mercenaries, I always saw them as vain so with enough gold and maybe a few well-placed praises and I would think that they would help you (I also think that they would enjoy eating people).

Breathe fire ok, but flying? I think Dragons do that on a regular basis...

*facepalm*

Ok firstly, dragon "mercs" most likely won't be actual mercenaries who fight in order to make money so they could buy beer & virgins. 'Merc' is just a convenient term we use, in truth Dragons will most likely be part of the story somehow and will have some kind of a plot-based reason for joining the player.

Secondly, as the faction was (and probably still is) originally planned, there were only a few "true" dragons who can actually fly and/or breather fire. The bulk of the dragon factions' forces consists of Drakes, half-orc, half-dragon foot soldiers (and whatever else needs doing) who more resemble regular infantry.

So basically, yes, they will need ships (or some other means of crossing water) as most of them will still be grounded.

Not DoF's dragons.

Indeed... did none of you read up on the numerous topics involving them? some drakes may breathe fire but will not have flight... The only dragon unit that can breathe fire AND fly is the Royal Dragon which is both rare and expensive...

Draconic creatures are either dragons or creatures like dragons; they don't all have to fly.

Indeed.... None-the-less the are still a noble and mysterious race who should be revered highly... One way they should be revered is by bringing back the dragon sect option *nods* :p
