Honestly, that is one thing that this game needs.

Remember how popular Stronghold series was? It wasn't popular cause it had great RTS combat, because AI was so challenging, because RTS combat was so tactical. It was popular because you could design and build your own castles and see how they perform when attacked.

Is there any way this could be implemented in DoF?

I have NO idea at all in which way Stronghold had an Good KI and or good Tactical Gameplay

But I agree with the need of being able to Construct your Own Castles ;)

That's what I'm implying, Stronghold didn't have good tactical combat, it was the castle building that made it popular. That is what DOF needs.


@Gruber Yeah man, at the moment these forums are dying under overload of new posts and it's very hard to sort through all these new topics. I guess my new topic is really cluttering the boards.

new posts? overload? you must be joking..theres barely any activity in the forums save for like..5-10 people.

Dof isn't stronghold. Keep that in mind.

Anyway, all that cool stuff will be added eventually. Remember that they're an indie studio and that these things take time.

well apart from a ability of being a self important smartarse, I guess it wouldnt be to hard for you to click on the page 2 button on several parts of the forum to see this question being discussed to death

maybe even looking at the public suggestions to even see if your idea has been mentioned and add to that thread but that might be asking to much of you

I just want to get some discussion going as the boards are very quiet.

If my post is clattering the boards so much that you can't find all the other topics, fell free to tell the moderators to delete it.


I wonder what develpoers think about castle design and building and if it could be applied to DOF?

Well ultimately I am pretty sure they can enable the wall sections to be build freely
the Orcs got an partly free building system so the necessary codelines are existing already for this


problem would be the interface side
to enable the player to build an Wall freely there would be some additions to the current system needed

1. they would need to change the Button for Inner War Upgrade into an Build Button for 1. Wall Section which you can Place Freely
2. they would need to put in some Script which will force you to connect any build wall to an already existing one
3. they would need to create an own wallbuilding interface in which you fully build the wall and close it BEFORE it actually starts building (this serves not only so you actually see immediately how it will look later on but will also prevent people from accidently leaving holes in their wall
4. they would need to create an extra empty space or bridge field to cross rivers and other impassable terrains where you cant build a wall


so its actually a bit of work :P
but it would be possible in my eyes

They should also have a limit on stone and wood you can use so you cannot build wall after wall after wall.

Or maybe give us a limit on land we can use, so we can build walls in any way we want but then if we build like 3 walls in a row we won't have space to put mnay buildings inside the walls.

the one thing dof needs for me!! is better unit control and animation! when you click them in a direction they just move in that direction exactly how they are on the screen ! they dont wheel round corners like they should do as they do in all other much older lesser games!! instead they just block move its not very realistic and feels cheap. the war side of the game is the most important aspect as its how we complete quests! its also the fun side of the game !! so they need to sort that before they even concider letting us build our own castles.

as it stands the game feels just a tiny bit better than a browser game but looks fantastic. alot more work is needed on the ui and controls and the genral feel and animation of the game engine. other than that good work guys im impressed with what the game could be.

one more thing i think would be good!! on the online world map!! it should be an mmo but its not! i want to see other peoples castles there and be able to visit them trade with them, or genrally spy on them for an attack.. this whole match making thing is a bit crap in all honesty. especially the 20 cap and 200 army str issue im having. i can make an army of 20 units and the str be around 350 and it says no suitable armys found. but if i reduce the armsy str to 205 or so it starts finding matches. why is that!!! ???
