How about adding a new Building for All Races
Named Training Pit

Will work similar to Training in Citys
but will not be Limited to Racial Units means you can Train Any Unit in it.
and will not Cost Gold but Time instead

You Send two Units to the Training Pit
and they Fight each other slowly to gain Skill Points
You can Set em to Fight to 50% 10% or to Death
Fighting to Death will count fully like the Unit would Fight an Enemy Unit (but will cost one of the Two Units)
Fighting to 50% will only make you Gain Experience at 20% rate
Fighting to 10% will make you Gain Experience at 40% of the normal rate

Once the Units Finished their Fight they will leave Pit and be under Controll of the Player again
having gained some Experience and of course being Injured and need to be Healed first before entering Pit again

Also to have this make some Sense Units Trained at Home should be able to Reach not only lvl 5 but lvl 8 :P

i like this idea
it be nice if you could train units properly without having to endlessly fight
i mean i can barely get a troop to get past lvl 5 with doing quests

it would also add a good resource sink to the game
if you make it that it takes 2 troops to train 1 troop up
imagine how many troops you would need to create or buy to max out 1 troop

it would be neat i can finally use all this gold and food for something else then mercs

Well if you Train Slowly
at 40% Speed while Healing the Units after each Round it might take long time but less Ressources

Also higher levels take much Experience so even with 100% gain rate it will often not suffice to defeat just one Unit
means that training from lvl 6 to 7 might already require to offer either one Unit of equal lvl or several lower lvl Squads since theres much Exp Required

Sun - you are reading my mind this week:)

This is one of the new building we planned, but I love your idea of actually seeing your units train there! I`ll see what we can do - but again - this is something we`ll get to eventually - maybe in March, as we planned to roll-out new buildings around that time.

Well then how about this

Make the Building a Large Arena
with one Pad on each Side

The Player places 1 Unit on each Pad
And then Presses the Button for the Fight (one for each Option)

Upon Pressing the Units will be removed from the Player and will given to two different NPC Players which are enemy with each other but Friendly with the Player
means they will Attack each other and thus move into Arena without any extra scripting

I am just a Modder so I am not able to Programm myself
but by now I think I am at least able to Discern Possibilitys of a Game

The Codes for changing control of a Unit is already there since I saw it in Quests
and theres also NPC Players with different relations so this is also already in the Game
And Triggers for Units being in a Certain place are also used alot
so the missing thing would be the Building and the Buttons to have a Player Call the Script
Which is beyond me
but I dont doubt you guys can do that :P

Once one Unit Reaches the Set Point of Health Both Units will receive Stop Order and will be Placed in the Players Control again

even tough that will require that the System Identifys the Units
but that should be possible since the Script can be told to Designate the Unit on the Pad at the moment a Player presses the Button

Well I guess its something a Programmer should think about :P
My Comments are most likely missing more then half of the required steps anyways ^^
