View Full Version : Sopa-Wikipedia Blackout

01-17-2012, 11:15 PM
Man i figured i;d see if wikipedia was serious about going theough with a 24 hour blackout on their site to protest "Sopa"

And they did,and its awsome.

If you dont know what sopa is,you might should take a look, could possibly change our internet forever as Americans, migth as well move to China.

01-17-2012, 11:16 PM
worst part is it affects china as well so their no escaping *sigh* WW3 here we come

Problem with stuff like this is those pesky lawyer type wordings.I almost understand why they would want to do something like this.

Copyright stuff is a nasty place to get tangled. And yes, someone who produces tangible work, such as music, movies, hell online games, should receieve payement for those things, though prolly not as much as alot of them seem to think they should make.

But this leads to more stuff, which leads to more,a good example of what i mean is Promethuse V Mayo,if you dont know it,take a look.I could be wrong, but from what I think I understand,Promethues has a patent on...I have no clue wtf it is on,so i qoute:

The drugs themselves were already known to be useful to treat the disease, but according to Prometheus’ patent, their use was in limited because their efficacy was difficult to monitor. The basis of the invention was in discovering the range of doses that would be effective without harming the patient.

I get confused easily sometimes, but this makes my head spin. Its not the drugs, nor the drugs uses that the patent is about. It's about something.....something above my head i guess. But from every article I have seen on this, and been quite a few,cuz i like puzzles, its basically saying, you can not form the corralation between "this" and "that" in your head, because we have a patent on it.

Just think,if SOPA is inacted, restricting internet, and can be sued for putting 2 plus 2 together in your head----meh I got work to do on a tin-foil hat

it's cool that wikipedia did their protest blackout, and google had a special protest logo. This sopa thing is bad news, and it's good that they're getting the word out.

01-19-2012, 01:33 AM
Aye,can understand why google didnt do a complete black out,but man would that have made a statement.

But Wikipedia's 24 hour blackout was enough,i am always looking things up,and cussed a few times when wiki was first 2-3 lionks in whatever i was going for.Which is what prompted me to make the thread, blackouts over, but I wonder if the idea worked.

BTW Wired (magaizine available online),and even Craigslist participated in their own ways.I do hope the black outs associtaion with "hackers" doesnt become a focal point of the SOPA supporters.

Tokyo Toshokan
An Big Site Hosting Anime Stuff has also been Off Yesterday

I know that it has several thousands of users checking on it each hour
So I guess its a nice Impact especially as its most Users come from the USA

In any case this is quite Dangerous
nowdays many Companys are calculating losses and wins of illegal distribution of their Software and Stuff
often deciding that the advertising effect of Illegal distribution far outlines the possible losses

Many Media Companys could not survive at all without the Users Spreading the Game around and those increasing Users Community and Advertising for possible buyers

But US Departments are quite known to be stubborn
they will see this trough no matter what
I bet on that

Guess I am happy to be in Germany
we are banned from most US Servers and Providers from the start as Germany has Outlawed most of the Big Bother stuff from the start......

It was great to wake up this morning to all the news about landslide impact Wednesday black-outs had.
-3 key republican supporters of PIPA/SOPA have pulled their support from the bill.

It`s funny how they recanted: "Ops, we just realized this legislation is bad" after supporting it for months:) If couple more bill sponsors withdraw their support both bills are as good as done. Although I`m sure they`ll try again with-in a year (after elections) in another form.

So while it might be a bit early to celebrate victory of online democracy - we are almost there.

And US Goverment Strikes back
Megaupload has been Closed
4 of 7 Staffmembers have already been Arrestet

The US Claim that this has nothing to do with it
But the Timing is far too good and the topic far to concerned for that to be true ......

This guys are Stubborn
they wont rest till they get their will of being the legal Big Brother of the World :P

01-20-2012, 09:07 AM
I don't know why, but this reminds me much of Orwells 1984.

01-20-2012, 09:36 AM
tbh... if they get that ridiculous bill trough... i might gota consider to stop gaming and become a hacker lol

i mean... if there gona censor the internet.... its gona ruin so much gaming stuff its not even funny

for all we know this forum could be censored because someone trash talks starwars the old republic

when i last visited piratebay... the site told my that thepiratebay.org is gona be censored in my country...
were does it stop ?
all this greed...
if you make something ****... and peeps are copying it because its not worth there money
instead of trying to cry like a lil greedy arsehat maybe you should make something worth buying first....
when u make a game / cd / piece of art / whatever and its absolutely awesome
people will buy it.. to have it.. or show support..

Megaupload has been Closed

This has hit us hard! We spend large amount on premium membership and tons of bandwidth with megaupload, and just recently made additional payments to them as we wanted to host the DoF client there again (as we did during the beta). And now it seems like all that money is gone forever.

I`m hearing from so many business and regular people who store files for their clients or picture and videos of their loved once there - I won`t be surprised if this will get millions of people extremely angry - more than the SOPA action.

01-20-2012, 11:08 AM
erm did the us goverment close megaupload ?

01-20-2012, 11:28 AM
If your planning on becoming a "hacker" it would be best to start now, before all the info and back channels you need are blocked, dont think barnes and nobles gonna have that particular set of how-to's

As for megaupload, something sounds way off here,if i didnt know better i would say this is just a ruse to get anonymous to do something stupid.Which of course, theres already some news places reporting they have.

Back to my tin-foil work.

And sel,the fbi did,so yeah was US :>

01-20-2012, 12:42 PM
i never knew megaupload was a illegal thing
i mean whats so bad about a file hosting service
obviously there is gona be peeps uploading copyrighted material...
but they also do that on youtube....
maybe the FBI should take down youtube next... and google with it

speaking of youtube i saw a vid of anonymous stating they took down the FBI website :P
i guess they are already brewing up some revenge
america just loves to attract those terrorists don't they... be it irl or on the internet

i guess the internet is gona has some fun times ahead...
i guess ill start looking for that "how to hack 101" :P
or become a corrupt capitalist

01-20-2012, 02:09 PM
Well the FBI Closed it
Which is same as US Goverment closing it since they are an US Department belonging to the US Goverment

As for now Megaupload is Legal
But they are Accused for quite alot if Illegal activity
of course the truth behind this wont be coming up that soon

But most Suspicios is the Infos the US Goverment gave themself
Saying the Order for megaupload came 2 weeks before the Blackout

2 Weeks is one hell of a Short time for an Project of that Size

Also this has made deep Cuts in many Games and Companys
Megaupload is one of the Worlds Biggest File Hosters

Many Games hostet Clients and Updates there
Advertising, Game Clients, Data and Software Packages as well as Video and Audio Materials from Schools and Companys had been hostet there and had been Paid for Months or even Years

This is gonna be a big Impact on the case ...

01-20-2012, 04:50 PM
It's things like this that make me want to move to canada...

01-21-2012, 04:20 AM
I also just read the new Law about Journalism

This is pretty good
With this Law the State is allowed to Monitor anything that a Jounalist does
and even further anything that is being involved with him

Depending on how this will be Interpretet they can Monitor the Private life of someone just because he Spoke with a Jounalist or even just because the Journalist wants to Speak with that Person.
And I have actually no doubts that they will interpret it that way .....

Big Brother here we come ^^

Tough the Tactic is old
If I remember right the last guy who slowly put Journalism under State Control and then startet on cutting into Privacy was once the Leader of my Home Country
think that was around 1936 ^^

tbh in the end its all about controlling your civilians
first they made you materialistic
then they made you scared
then they try to control the flow of information

now your a buy obsessed minion who works like madman to be able to afford life its many materials
scared of the world and its many dangers, only told what you need to be told :P
the perfect ant to have in your anthill
as long as capitalism is there you will be manipulated to buy things which can be taxed and for which you can work

but hey who cares... as long as your a happy ant...
freedom on internet is fun... but when they take it away... well after some crying you will get over it and forget
as long as you have the illusion of being free you wont notice your as caged as your pet hamster...

the modern cycle of life... and you thought it was about eat or being eaten ? :P

01-22-2012, 08:31 AM
Good Description of the USA and most EU Countrys (Including Germany)

Question is
How far can you go without making your Ants Angry :P

Walking the Line between Happy Ants not noticing their Cage
And Ragin Ants Breaking out of their Cage and Eating You is much harder then most People Think
Recent Activitys in the Arabian Region should have tought us that ^^

Bad thing is
If you Cross that Line in an Industrial State
this will be 10 times larger Scale of a Civil War then what Lybia is capable off
and Corssing it in one of the so Called Major Countrys of the World will end like it did 2 times in the past Already ......

01-22-2012, 12:14 PM
Yeah, unfortunately that is good description. damn usa, why do I have to live here???

Maybe someday people will learn.

How far can you go without making your Ants Angry :P
In my opinion there is no limit anymore. Developed countries government/media/corporate structure is too advanced to fail. They know how to introduce gradual changes and use media, and now even free internet media to help promote their agendas.

However I`m not sure all the changes are all that bad - at least the eyes of the majority. Our free will might eventually downgrade to a level of deciding what color we want our next consumer products to be in, but we`ll all live long, safe, boring and productive lives:) However - I think we`ll always have game industry (just think how games will be in 20-30 years from now) to make the best of our free will as we live out our real life and make the best of our free will in the virtual worlds.

The only X factor that can truly revolutionize our society that Governments can`t control is rapid growth of technology. If neuro interface, nano and bio technologies, as well as wireless connectivity continue to make significant progress - we might end up developing a global collective consciousness in the next 20 years - on a level far surpassing current Internet trends. Properly controlling it through usual means of gradual pseudo-democratic legislation should not be possible.

01-22-2012, 01:34 PM
ah freedom :P
such a nice word
once there was a wide world... vast emptiness
it was man versus wild
if you slept in the wrong cave... a bear would come along and eat you

now days... the vast emptiness has been transformed into... vast fullness...
i think its time we leave this planet and venture into space ;)
then we can be free again... and have all the space of the universe to wonder around in...
and if you park your spaceship at the wrong planet... aliens will eat you

ps iv humanity turns into a hive mind... i shall be its overlord /wink

I made extra tin-foil hats........

We pay the government to do stuff like this. What we failed to do,is to implement some form of security for ourselves. And why should we,the government will take care of us.....

Normally I say if you dont like something, allow your wallet to speak for you.Wouldnt suggest it here though, the irs....hehehe dun get on wrong side of that cluster-****.

Theres two choices here for anyone capable of looking into the past, and seeing the future. Can do whats been done already, which only changes the time-frame in which things like this happens.Any smoker with half a brain can tell you, smoking aint gonna be here for much longer.Sure cigars may still be around in 100 years, but i dont see much of a lifespan for camel's and newport's.

The other option, while more pro-active,involves actually standing up and allowing your voice to be heard,no matter what. Its rather easy to do on forums, behind that false security blanket of anonymousness. And many people know where that leads, flamewars are rather fun though. In real-life however, words turn into actions, which turn into bloodshed.Which leads us back to the first option really.

Civil wars dont start based on one thing. If you think America's own civil war back in the day was about slavery, well then....your an idiot.Sorry,no other way to say that.Sure slavery played a part, sure people used it as an excuse to fight. And lets face it,we like to pretend we are all a morale people.

Its sort of funny,if you look back at history, again America's first civil war.

1. Economic and social differences between the North and the South.<---all we need is something besides location,say....wallstreet and those "occupy" morons

2. States versus federal rights.<---Arizona,nough said.Except, got to give them props, making laws to enforce federal laws already in place, and then catching hell for it.....wtf

3. The fight between Slave and Non-Slave State Proponents and 4. Growth of the Abolition Movement. <--same damn thing, making this the top 4 reasons and not the top 5.Hate it when people do this shyte, like someone isnt gonna notice.

5. The election of Abraham Lincoln.<--this is really number 4,but really, nothing wrong with our elections now days is there....o wait...

I look around, watch the news.More and more every day,i ask myself, why,o why,do i not have an arsenal of weapons, ammo, and mre's so i can be semi-prepared for the shyte storm thats coming.I tell myself,it wont happen until I am long gone.Or better yet,it just wont happen. But honestly,I cant for life of me understand why it hasnt happened yet,and I wonder which horrible news story is gonna break the proverbial camels back.

And dont read this and jion a cult, cuz yes, they may have the arsonal prepared, but them guys aint all toghether there. We are looking for a fight though,as a nation, and while we look outwards most the time,I dont think it will be long before we start looking inwards.Theres a tension thats been growing for years, between, and this is sad, political parties.the whole tea-paty thing, while funny, could have possibly triggered a war in and of itself, because people where looking for that type of non-sense.When enough people feal their way is the best way,and enough people think it isnt, then all it will take is one stupid thing.

BTW huge fan of v for vendetta Should watch this movie, good movie :>

Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it's my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V.

Problem is always that which lies in the Shadow

While I usually Support that Companys Defend against Piracy

Piracy of Software and other Stuff is a Requirement

Nowdays the Ravine between Rich and Poor is Big
Someone said something good this week which I maybe should advance a little

He said
If People have Money they Will Buy it
If People dont have Money they will Pirate it

Now this is very simple thing to say but has much Influence on the World

Fact is most People Especially Younger Men like me dont have the Luck that i have to be Working for a Giant Company that pays even their Young Workers a Good Salary

Most People hardly have the Money to Keep Up with Musik, Software and Games
Yet most are Pressured by Society to have this Stuff and most dont have anything else as well
Going Out is even more Expensive (and as a sidenote Alcohol and Discos aint the best Alternative I think)

Now Thinking a Bit further
Lets assume they actually Manage to Stop Piracy of Software, Musik and Games

This will Result in two Things

1. People who are without Work will have even less stuff to Spend Time on and will feel even more backstabbed by those with Wealth

2. Young People Pressured by Friends and Community will feel unable to cope with others

Both will Result in Criminality
And since the easy and non violent way of Criminality cant be used anymore
many of them might be swayed into using other Means to get new Stuff .....

History has taught us ONE DAMN THING
Humans that once had something will never Accept to have it taken away
taking something away from a Human which was given before will always result in Hatred

Prohibition of Tabak or Alcohol have showed this well
and this will go no other way

Thats something I.ll be taking bets on guys ......

Greetz ^^

...and then we turn into the Borg

I won`t go that far - at first it`ll be same as using your Iphone just without having to stare at the screen with retina nerve projection (or at first I guess glasses or contact lenses, as neuro-interface is way ahead of retina nerve techs and can`t really be done yet), and motion detection with basic cognitive commands. But I think true revolution will be not on just a hard-ware side but on a software side - with applications that could easily allow collective thinking.

i watched a anime once about a world were the digital world and real world over lapsed
you would put on a pair of glasses and see the world trough a whole new perspective
actually iv seen 2 anime's who used that same concept
imagine all the new space to put down billboards

and about the whole american revolution
you gotta have 1 hell of a trigger to set that off..
a trigger which angers the entire country enough about its government to decide to pick up weapons
good luck with that :p

and about piracy... well i think its good
keeps the games industry healthy (not that its anywhere near healthy atm...)
good games will sell with our without piracy
and games which have nothing to offer.... well people will pirate it instead cuz.. not everyone has endless pockets of money

maybe instead of crying... people should just accept that when you make something digital... people will copy it .. that's just the nature of the digital world...
the days of hand to hand trade are in the past... welcome to the digital age....

01-23-2012, 03:14 PM
Americans are known to be pretty fast with picking up weapons :P

So actually the trigger to that might be smaller then you think ^^
