Regardng the following question and answer:

Q: Can you opt out of a fight?
A: Yes, but it costs resources. If you opt out, the attacking player cannot challenge you again for a predetermined amount of time.

In KW you can be forced to pay with cattle and I think also units, but not sure about the units part, if you have little resources in order to avoid a fight.
Can you be forced to pay with Influence bought units if you want to aviod a PVP fight in online kingdom?

Also regarding this:

Q: What happens if a player leaves or signs out in the middle of a skirmish?
A: It will be counted as a resignation, and that player will be forced to pay tribute to his or her attackers.

Is there a limit on how long a player can siege you? If there is not a time limit and I know I can't win the battle head on and the the player sieging you can just stay pu and not engage for the sake of just preventing you from doing anything else, cause you don't want to pay him the "I give up" tribute. I can see some griefing possibility here.

I played my online kingom today and got attacked by someone, I could choose to pay off and it just said 0 on all ressources lol... kinda odd?
