A couple of weeks ago I played as the elves. I sent my main army to the world map to trade a huge amount of resources. Sadly, I did not see the enemy army approaching my city on the world map. A little movie brought me back to my home base and a scout yelled the city is under attack.

However... I did get the option to either fight the enemy army, or pay them off with a big sum of gold. Luckily, I did have enough gold to satisfy their demands. But what if I didn't have enough gold? Would the entire enemy force kill all of my weak peasants and destroy every building I have? Or would they only kill a few peasants as a warning? Or would they even accept my gold offer when it is less than they demanded for? (you can sometimes recruit mercenaries for less gold when they are too expensive)
