View Full Version : Looking for a RTS

Well I just downloaded the Total War Shogun 2 demo and the game is pretty interesting, but there are a few things im looking for in a RTS that it does not satisfy. First I want to be able to build my city like any other rps (don't like the token looking cities). Being able to place buildings wherever I want and stuff.

Second I am looking for something that has large scale armies like Shogun 2 when you decide to command them. This is something that is a definite must.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Company of Heroes is a great WWII RTS if you're willing to try that out.

2nd for Company of Heroes. One of the best RTS games I have ever played. Relic did an awesome job. The game can be had for fairly cheap.... Steam (http://store.steampowered.com/app/4560/) has the original for ~$7 USD

Company of Heroes is hands down the best RTS I've ever played. Dawn of war II is equally as awesome but they're somewhat different. CoH has some base building elements and focuses heavily on territory control whereas DoWII is all about holding victory points and outmaneuvering your opponent. If you like massive scale RTS the Supreme Commander series is amazing. Another notable one is Sins of a Solar Empire which is a very unique RTS. It would be difficult to sum that game up in just a few sentences but I highly recommend checking it out.

As for Total War you can't go wrong with that series. My personal favorites are Empire, Napoleon, and Rome.

I think best rts on this moment is starcraft 2.

While in the minority, I have always hated the starcraft series. I honestly wish a real RTS would come again. I haven't enjoyed an RTS since supreme commander+FA. Everything lately has lost the base building aspect and is really RTT more than anything.

I would suggest trying out Men of War, it is a RTS when you apply a lot of realism and fully destructible physics. Set in WWII. For example, you can drive a T-34 right through a building and kill the infantry within it with the crumbling pieces.

The stronghold series mentioned by a few other people, would be my biggest recommendation.

If your looking for something that is more city building than combat though, I'd recommend Children of the Nile and CivCity Rome, fun titles both of them. Oh, and I've always had a soft spot in my heart for 1404 AD, 1503, 1602, 1701, etc. 1602 and 1503 being the two I favor.
