View Full Version : Guild Capitals?

So i was thinking a bit, after I read a few posts about clans, and It made me wonder... Would guilds be like medieval lords, who would essentially rent out their land? e.g. The king owns ____ amount of land, he gives x amount to each baron who gives y amount to each lesser lord and it continues as such.

So, would the guild master's capital be like the large capital of the area and each of the officers in their land around the capital and each member surrounding them? Like a large concentric circle, lesser peoples on the outside, important people near the center.

That would be cool. I don't know if it would happen though. Maybe they could have a central castle of some sort though.

And why not?

Because they're late into development and there's no room for major revisions.

It's not too big, I am a game designer, and to me it looks pretty simple.

It requires modeling of a new Guild Master's castle plus the players' regions probably aren't arranged that way (so close to each other) so whenever a guild is formed members would have to "move" into this cluster of strongholds around the "leader", it probably changes the core mmo gameplay Reverie had in mind.

Ohh, I thought you meant that it was technically impossible.

No, no, by 'no room' I meant 'no time'. Once the cake is in the oven it's too late to change the ingredients...or sumthin' like that. :)

What about the frosting? (update)

Who know, they may make an expansion with a bunch of small updates in them.

:p how would u defend a guild capital? dont think its possible at all =) with clans and alliances not everyone i dont think can be on the same map for a capital castle .. to defend it

I can see this happening without any added content its actually quite simple!
Step 1) Establish a leader of a clan to be given massive resources.
2) Use Resources to create a grand castle
3) Leader must protect clan members with a large army and support their attacks or...They must be overthrown....
4) Conquer surrounding area to form a buffer zone

Where are all the Orc supporters?

This is definitely an interesting idea. For those of you who wonder how you would defend a guild capital, perhaps to assault one/defend one would be a team match.

3 on 3 or 4 on 4. Although what conquering one would do could wield a large number of interesting possibilities.

Generation

that is wrong and u kno how cool it wuld look if there wasn't a limit u culd be like so invincible and use some parts as a distraction while getting the main force to do a surprise attack on them

he only talks like that when he threatens someone other times he spells perfectly lol

a guild capital would only be fun if the game didnt have regions and the whole world was was the size of the sun and we all had computers that never lag unless we press the lag button ( or slow motion )

Mrdash

Well that wouldn't matter cause DoF are so cool they will be giving away free computers that the game works on, with every DoF XIII sold.

Back on topic please guys. How large will guild capitals (if present in the game) be, and how many guild members could it hold?

MrBlack103
01-04-2009, 10:50 PM
IMO that should correspond to the amount of members in the guild. It should be large enough to garrison about 100 soldiers from each player in the guild, in case they were making a final stand against a more powerful guild or something.

Then each of the players could contribute his most experienced soldiers.... Possibly their trademark? He spams archers... let him take the walls and defend...

That's unfair though because unless the attacking force has hundreds of siege towers etc, the "archer" players are gonna be pretty much safe. Although, it's practical because each player only has to concentrate on ONE task. I've got to stop contradicting myself:p

Not really.... If it is a guild capital... their gonna be attacked by a rival guild meaning many armies... meaning PLENTY of artillery and i dont fancy my chances against that many ballistae do you? :p So while the archers are being impaled with oversized arrows the footmen are cosily waiting behind the walls...

Guilds sound cool BUT:

In most current MMO's theres no real benefit to players and guilds except social hour, I find I spend as much time hanging out with none guildies as guildmates.

Seeing that this is Actually an RTS not a RPG will there an economical / population impact on my kingdom being apart of a Guild?

I assume population growth is an AI function controlled by how well you manage a kingdom!!

And if theres an impact on economical / population:

1. will you find your population leaving to live in the so called capital

2. will economical effects have both negative and positive effects on you, or will AI in the game only favor progression..

Personally I favor the Alliance / Trade model, it doesnt tie you to any one Capital and through Alliance and trade you build strength and wealth

If the only real benefit in this game for guilds is to amass a huge army, you could do the same through the A / T model .
