I love how each pix shows a massive combat swirl of troops. This should be a lot of fun. I can already see men troop rushes being furnished by their troops and watching people desperately trying to micro in on archer with their anti-infantry troops. Good Work :)

Where are paladins?=P
Beside those swordsmen with big shields really look nice on picture and that "shield wall" on bottom middle picture.
And yet again ..... they could have more fantasy armour =P.

Personally, I'm a fan of the late 12th century (Third Crusade era) great helm for a knight, nothing flashy, just a nice clean look that fully protects the head and upper neck.

Pic here:

http://www.ourdecay.com/Medieval/Pics/crusaders_great_helm_400.jpg

The full plate doesn't really make me jump out of my seat, but at least it's semi-realistic and not adorned with all sorts of pointy objects, spikes, horns, etc. that would impair one's ability in combat.

The other armors look OK. I do like the use of maille.

All I can think of when I look at the emblems on the shields is Byzantine Empire... Would be pretty nifty if the shield textures picked up a custom heraldry for your empire that you can create by either uploading an image or using an in-game editor. Don't know if that's been mentioned before.

It has been mentioned before, and most likely is already implemented into DoF, although i donīt know for sure.

And i just been comparing melee units, and you would think that the orcs, being more of a brutal melee oriented race, would have the advantage. But every orc unit is significantly weaker in terms of stats compared to the others. Kinda lame.:(

Orcs have the numbers, not too mention dirt cheap or free productions costs.

Yup thats what were meant for pillaging lands with enormmous numbers

Numbers don't always win you battles. It only puts the enemy at a slight disadvantage which can be countered by higher quality troops and strategy.

Great showcase! And those screenshots of those humongous battles are quite stunning! Looking forward to seeing more in-depth info on this game!

I have to agree, but in the orc's case, it's not that simple. With orcs it's about attrition. Wearing your enemy down and push your strongest troops at the breaking point in his formation with afterwards hunting down survivors for organ stew later on.:p

You'll just end up getting flanked and trapped rather easily, allowing the enemy's ranged troops to beat up on you while you can't escape.

Before that can happen, i would have sent my goblin raiders to zerg your archers(or warg, whatever you like).

I wouldn't be dumb enough to leave my archers unguarded.

Never said that. Merely stating that there are tons of ways to take down (your) archers. I could have come in from behind and bypass your force guarding your archers, could have shot them down with my own archers and catapults, i could have sent in several ogres to do it for me, making minchmeat from everyone between A and B. I have almost limitless options.

Yes... chainmail. Splinters aren't that big, you know. Plus chainmail is horribly redundent versus blunt force trauma.

screw the clubs...we will just chop these men up with our slayer blades:)

Or with our tetanus infected spears. Spears are plain crap, but the little things make it so more fun to use.:p

Will they hold the weapons in their right hands in release? Or will they always have them in the left? I remember commenting on this before and I want to know if the answer is still the same (if I remember right it was supposed to be fixed before the beta, and the beta has begun, it's still the same!)...

Yami-Yagari
07-16-2010, 05:13 AM
Does it really matter what hand they're holding their weapons? I mean, unless you get a attack penalty for being lefthanded, i don't see the problem.

I remember reading something about it being an engine bug. Search it.

Hmm I still don't understand what the issue is for holding weapons in left hand. "It's not a bug. It's a user feature" ...or something like that.

Miclee
07-16-2010, 08:47 AM
Found it.
http://www.reverieworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1589&highlight=left+hand

IIRC, Joe, one of our lead devs, said it was just an engine glitch long over-due for a fix.
