unit emotions, destructible environments etc?

Units will have a morale level, so they will act accordingly to threats and such depending on that value.

Unfortunately destructable enviroments aren't possible at this stage. It'll have to wait for DoF2.

destructible environments etc?

You can still destroy forests etc, you can destroy a lot on the map, go around chasing deer down for food lol. But no like destroying the ground making craters like in company of heroes wont be a feature. Therefore its either have absolutely massive maps with thousands after thousands of object like trees, bushes, swordsmen, massive fortresses, massive battles, lakes, river, huge mountains, etc. OR have tiny little maps with higher detail and about only 2000 objects max per map with a game engine features like company of heroes.
I think you know which one we picked.

i dont think crates are so important in a game fought with bows and swords, there are no bombs in this game;) and Ive seen the screenshots and the environment there is really impressive:eek: :)

Personally, I don't think it needs bombs right now because of how good it looks.

Craters were actually an important asset in Company of Heroes, just like they were in World War 2. They provided valuable cover for infantry. Ship bombardments plus bombing runs on the beaches during D-Day were suppose to create craters for infantry men to use. To omit that from the game, one that brags about it's realism, probably would have been pretty foolish.

Where as I don't see it being that important in DoF.

I personaly think the online part of any game is the more important because it allows the game to be played repeatedly always a different way, I feel the campain in games is a one time thing, you play it, you do it, you know it, your done with it and then your bored with it. Thats just me; I feel the muti-player aspect of the game should give you the option of hundreds of thrilling hours of gameplay, not 3 hours of compain, then your bored of playing the same missions again and again.

i loved the bfme2 missions but they where so boring after playing them once multiplayer is by far the best thing that rts can offer. so what dof offers is very good

depends upon the campaign. innovative and creative campaigns are good, but too obscure are not fun at all

It could be adapted probably in the movies in the game and slightly in gameplay. Even so much as citizens talking to each other would be cool or them going inside at night.

Puppeteer

Yeah but in FPS's they have less models of people, and less of them on screen at any one time. That's why they put so much detail in to them, and their guns, more than in RTS's.

I'm sure they will at least have like half torn down buildings or like corpses laying on the ground.

Puppeteer
11-15-2007, 03:25 PM
Well, only the tents were smaller than the units. And generic minas tirith pieces', but that's as the buildings were cramped, presumabley went further back into the mountains and had to be scaled for a big effect. But no general buildins were smaller than humans.

I dont know if i agree on this realism stuff.. its fantasy. its aint like you get orcs runnin around realisticly is it?? lolol. i see were your comin from on the building and stuff tis so weird when people are bigger then buildings.

I like fantasy cos its more fun, if you get a realistic game like world in conflict its good but im just there thinkin daaaaam dis is pretty borin now. i could go onto the news for this lol.

I got a question what about unfair maps?
For example:Some map maker makes a map that puts all the res on his side and giving the enemy nothing will this happen:confused:
Because I hope not

Simply allowing the use of only Reverie made or approved maps in tournaments and such solves the problem.

Puppeteer

Sometimes giving advantages is unavoidable, unless you want a boring symetrical map. But you can't restrict what people make on map editors though.

Joseph Visscher
12-07-2007, 12:44 PM
What I would see, is that custom maps would not be ranked or recorded in anyway, this therefore making imbalanced maps completely useless. But also we could however make very good maps offical in patches and such. so the really good custom maps turn into rankible skrimish maps.

The Witch King of Angmar
12-07-2007, 01:06 PM
Cool. Would any maps ever become official if they are good enough?

Thanks

In the lobby there should be a map preview *like in almost all RTS* so the players can decide themselves if the map is "UNBALANCED"

also to add to the map preiveiw there should be icons telling players where's respawn points, ECT

Can we make like forest fires atleast? Will our units be able to use the envirment? Hide behind trees, climb trees, Ogres pick up rocks/trees, would ents be able to eat trees for health like in Warcraft3? How will the whole corpse looting thing work do you have to bury them? Drag them back to the camp?

Puppeteer
04-14-2008, 01:49 PM
I don't think that they will have people dragging corpses back to their camps, because that would require a lot of anims and stuff. Also, ents eating trees? Heh? They are creatures of the forest, sheperds of the trees, wardens of the woods not some rampaging troll who eats fellow but immobile bark structures!

Tbeaz161
04-14-2008, 02:28 PM
Lol thats what I thought when I saw it I'm like: "WTF I'm playing night elves! They have whisps that get wood but they don't have to do any damage cuz they are tree huggers and then you have some big damn tree come by and it eats one of its own!"

Elves aren't even allowed to chop trees for wood, can you imagine them letting trees cannibalise other trees to heal themselves?
