I'm sure we wont be able to quell EVERYONE's fears or problems, however these two are being addressed.

Archers accuracy is based on line of sight as one of the criteria, that includes units that are in their way.

Control scheme for Xbox 360 is a huge thing we are going to be testing, we have gone through many configerations so far and we are going to be optimizing the 360 version, it will not just be a straight port.

Brilliant! And I say this as a PC gaming nerd ;)

And the reason I say this? Because its obviously being developed on the PC first, and then properly ported and optimized for the 360! So many games have done this with the 360 first and foremost with the PC coming as a mere after-thought, thus rendering it unplayable for the first few weeks.

Ah. This definately puts my mind at ease.

Umm, every game MUST be made on a PC... Even PS3 and Wii games, but the developers like to keep these games on a low amount of systems...

Lol. True mate, but the console development kits are optimized for that one particular platform. Hence the original Halo never being properly ported back to the PC, even though that was the platform it was originally intended for.

To this day most cards still have FPS troubles, so it can happen...

My brother is getting a Xbox 360 in a few weeks for his birthday and Im supposed to get him a game.

He is mostly interested in racing games, but he might enjoy a shooter.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a game that would be cheaper if possible?

Halo 3 ;)

Back to the topic.

I think this game would do well on the xbox but game;s like these should be played on pc if you ask me ;)

Shadowrun can be picked up for next to nothing, halo3 is still a great game too... But if you want to get him a game that is brand new you wont find them cheap... older ones are still good though and come very cheap, especially secondhand...

Yeah agreed, DOF will probably sell well on the xbox too however it wont have much longetivity... not many RTS console games do... C&C and Halo Wars are examples of that... when they came out there were huge numbers of players and now it is rather scarce... :/ However it is a good way to make money considering the pricing of console games compared to pc games...

Some serious advertising will be necessary to really be profitable, especially on consoles... possibly an xbox live demo should be released, they tend to work rather well... especially ones which offer multiplayer functions :)

will the xbox 360 be able to support up to 16000 troops?, i ask because because i saw somewhere in the forum say that with 8 players and up to 4000 troops each and 8 players, thats a lot of lag for an xbox 360

After the fail that was Halo Wars, I don't have particularly high hope for the X Box verision. Its not a doomed project though

How one can react quick in a battle, I think it's hard on a xbox to control your group of mages and a group of demolishers within 3 seconds.

the xbox version will probably be a little slower paced to make up for that

I fear having a seperate Xbox360 and PC version will split up the community which makes it harder to keep the game alive if things don't go aswell as you'd want.

Perfect case would be if xbox and PC would play on the same MMORTS server(s)

Legitimate fear. I don't see them being combined though especially when the controls are much different. For example, a PC player might be able to more quickly give commands then an XBOX player.

i definitely find the xbox controls way to cumbersome. As in any RTS game.. the person with faster response (i.e. computer) will have a HUGE advantage.

It was tried before (although I forget precisely where) and it was found that PC gamers would constantly wipe the floor with console gamers thanks to the superior interface.

Actually, I don't know if any of you have played Tom Clancy's Endwar or R.U.S.E. on a console, but they actually ended up being quite fluid for a console RTS. Of course they had a very streamlined interface (Endwar had voice recognition that actually worked, whereas RUSE has every building and unit construction order mapped to a button), but it worked quite well with the limited real estate available on a 360 controller.

I commented elsewhere that Endwar had a nice interface including voice commands that worked well. With my XBOX Kinect mic I would love to be able to sit on my couch yelling out commands to my fantasy army without a headset or having to put down my bag of Doritos to pick up a controller. :D

Endwar and Halo Wars both had very easy to use control pad methods for RTS's. I'm assuming that Dawn of Fantasy will use a similar spin-wheel method of selecting commands. Halo Wars also allowed you to "paint" quickly to select multiple units similar to the click-and-drag boxes of a PC. Actually in some ways better - you could paint over units skipping past those you didn't want that would normally be selected in a PC box.

Have you played an RTS on a console? It can work, especially if the RTS is slower-paced and gives you time to get things in order. Like I'm quite sure that you could play a Total War game quite easily from a console because of how you can take your time and pause the game during battle to issue orders and such. So it really does depend on the game and its pacing.
That being said, I haven't played DoF yet so I can't say how this knowledge applies to the game.

One example that comes to mind would be Pikmin - you can go through the game entirely at your own pace, the only time limit being the number of missions you could go on (30 days/missions). Although that's more of a beginner's RTS and has only a few of the mechanics present in most strategy games, so don't quote me on that.

I have seen stategy game working fine on XBOX before. CIVI evolution was great, but again not a RTS.

What im afraid of with RTS for XBOX is most the control handling. But i dont have much experience playing RTS on any console and the control handling is the main thing that keeps me away from RTS genre on console systems.

Another thing that is way better with computers vs. Consoles is the graphic and the mobility of a laptop. I personally hates the split screen when multiple players are playing on the same screen.

Civilisation revolution was good, but it is a TTS, totally different.
RTS on consoles have standard setups using toggles and radial menus, they are really easy to adapt to, but of course have the downfall of no keyboard shortcuts and no mouse... So everything is a bit slower as such.

When you say computer, laptop is specialist really. Computer generally refers to a tower, rather than a laptop. I would not recommend RTS for laptops, unless you get a mouse and have a high spec laptop.
Also, the split screen has nothing to do with laptops being better? If you are saying that LAN for laptops is better than multiple players on consoles, then you could easily be argued with that consoles also have LAN ability for most games...

I am tempted call trolling here, but I will let it slide, your just after your 10 posts after all... Just like every other new member of the last few days
